REGISTER HEREWhat is Purim?
Purim is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the triumph of the Jewish people over a plot to destroy them in ancient Persia, as recounted in the biblical Book of Esther. The story highlights the bravery of Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai, who worked together to thwart the evil plans of Haman, an advisor to the king. Purim is observed with joyous festivities, including reading the Megillah (Book of Esther), giving gifts to friends and the needy (mishloach manot and matanot la’evyonim), enjoying festive meals, and dressing up in costumes. It is a time to reflect on God’s hidden hand in delivering His people and to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
