Volunteer opportunities are available at all levels, with time commitments varying from once a week to once a year. CRU – Military Ministry
As the Military Ministry of Cru, we serve the Chaplains at Naval Station Great Lakes and minister to Recruits, Navy “A-School” students training for their first fleet assignments, active duty Navy Staff and a growing ministry to spouses and children. We are also ministering to Veterans. Our ministry uses Bible Studies, group meetings and one-on-one relationships to share the gospel, encourage Sailors to turn to the Savior and help Sailors deepen their relationship with Christ.
While we have a small local team of Cru Military Staff, Volunteers have been a key multiplier since the ministry started in the Fall of 2002. Our Volunteers are up front and teach our Christian basics classes, work behind the scenes in support roles getting bibles and study materials to Recruits and Sailors, provide prayer support, provide meals for our Friday Evening Bible Study and the Sunday hospitality ministry and finally, help with child care in the new MomCo (formerly MOPS) ministry in Navy Housing. We also encourage those who provide meals to stay and get personal time with the, mostly, 18-24 years old Sailors and potentially mentor these Sailors while they are here for training. Many who help with meals find that personal time very rewarding.
So the list in long: Teaching, Material Support, Prayer Support, Meals and Hospitality, Mentoring, Child Care
