Small Group Director – Lake Forest


This staff position is the primary driver of our small group strategy at Christ Church. In concert with the Campus Pastors, he or she works to provide an effective small group ministry for members and attendees of all Christ Church campuses through ongoing recruiting, encouragement and resourcing of small group leaders with information, materials and training to help them lead effectively. He or she also provides direct oversight of small group ministry at our Lake Forest campus.


  • Provide vision and direction for small groups, including affinity groups
  • Provide training and coaching for small group leaders at all campuses
  • Produce weekly sermon discussion guides to be used at all campuses
  • Evaluate and recommend alternative content for small group use
  • Manage mechanism for small group placement at the Lake Forest campus
  • Recruit, train and oversee small group leaders at Lake Forest campus
  • Share best practices for small groups across multiple sites working with campus pastors and ministry champions
  • Work alongside the campus pastors to coordinate small group ministry with other ministries that include, but are not limited to evangelism, discipleship, membership, FPU, etc.
  • Work with central ministry staff to coordinate small group ministry with care ministry, local & global outreach, and Institute offerings
  • Manage ministry budgets and resources

  • Willingness to serve in and/or outside the church


  • Growing participation in small groups
  • Consistent, high-quality small group resources (i.e. sermon discussion guides, etc.)
  • Effective leader recruitment, training and communication


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Three plus years involved in ministry as a paid staff or volunteer
  • Strong Christian faith and biblical foundation. Principle centered.
  • Spends time daily in prayer and study
  • Able to effectively teach God’s word to leaders and other participants in various ministries
  • Is current with group ministry trends
  • Is actively involved in the life of the church
  • Able to spiritually counsel and direct others as needed through pastoral care
  • Proven ministry leader and strategic thinker
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator and encourager-both written and oral
  • Very strong organization and management expertise
  • Task oriented. Motivated and energized by achieving results
  • Effective team leader and builder of teams
  • Ongoing growth and education in area of ministry
