Dear Christ Church Family,
Yesterday the senior staff did something new and novel – we held an onsite meeting! Seven of us gathered at the Lake Forest campus for a three hour discussion about Phases 3 and 4 of the governor’s plan. I thought it was time for a face-to-face. I also wanted to test the new protocols we plan to have in place: 1) taking temperatures; 2) social distancing in the office; 3) wearing masks, etc. We survived – and my excitement for getting back into the building grew.
Remember: When people ask me when the church will reopen, I keep saying, “We have not closed. Buildings have closed, but the church is open!”
Be Encouraged: The global pandemic has it’s difficult and dark side. But be encouraged, it is also showcasing lots of good. Medical workers and others racing into virus hotspots to help; scientists engaging the virus; students providing care for neighbor children or senior adults; people donating time and money to make sure no one goes hungry. The list goes on. And from where I sit, I see lots of it. Thanks for all you are doing, and – as I said – be encouraged.
Today’s Reflection: We are meditating on the example of Christ stepping down. Today – step six: He became obedient to the point of death.
This Weekend: Dr. Phil Ryken, President of Wheaton College, will continue Anchored: How to Navigate Mental Health Challenges, with a message on Psalm 142. He will also be sharing his personal story of depression. The link to the services is here.
Press On,
Mike Woodruff
